WHAT IS Nö MUSIC?
Nö Music is an online editorial, focussing on quality Norwegian music, live, recorded, signed or self-promoted, and spelling it out in E-N-G-L-I-S-H for the world to see. Or most importantly, hear.
The last ten years Norway has stepped out of one neighbouring country’s pop shadow, proving there’s more to its music scene these days than Take On Me and You are my Solskjær. The fjords and mounts hide musical treasures – and not as in “Jazzhands!”…
Nö Music is not genre-specific. We’re not here to shamelessly blow the Norwegian horn – let’s be honest; there’s some seriously overrated shit out there. We’re here to present the well that is the Norwegian music scene, from major festivals to the occasional astonishing supporting act of 15-year old kids singing their older sibling’s hearts out long before their hormones could even think to comprehend such emotion. From obscure black metal to that old rock band that never reinvents itself, but for some reason still gets to headline. It’s a strange world and Nö gives it to you in colours, blacks and whites, videos and plain text.
Don’t take yes for an answer.

Do you want to contribute?
Do you
a) have an amazing camera;
b) a Hunter S. Kerouac-worthy notepad;
c) impeccable music taste;
d) live in an town with a bandwidth to die for, but sadly the ferry only crosses twice a year so no-one ever gets to experience the burgeoning live scene; or
e) possess all of the above? We’ll be happy to have you amongst our ranks.

THEY SAID WHAT NOW?
As a U.S. citizen, it’s tough to figure out how all of the wonderful Norwegian music I listen to fits together. That’s why nomusicmedia.com is invaluable to me as a reader and a writer. With interviews, live reviews, and album reviews, written in English by Norwegians who are engaged with the scene, the site is my first stop when I want to understand how a Norwegian artist is perceived at home. Besides being informative, it’s honest, funny, and often inventive–be sure to check out the “comic interview” with Annie.
– Brian Howe (Pitchfork Media/Paste Magazine)
As an avid fan of all things Norwegian (have you tasted Kvikk Lunsj?) and a less avid supporter of all musical things U.K. or American just because they’re from the U.K. or America (have you yet to realise how bad the chocolate is in Kit Kats?), it’s important for me to keep abreast of what’s going on in the land of brown cheese and nomusicmedia does a fine job at assisting me. It’s updated daily, doesn’t concern itself with being hip and isn’t afraid to throw the odd barbed-remark around which only adds to the fun and underline their independent spirit. And if they can work out how to offer Kvikk Lunsj via download I’ll marry the Editor.
– Andy Inglis (Co-founder, The Luminaire)
