If you live in Oslo and are even remotely interested in alternative music you’ll most likely have stopped by Revolver on more than one occasion this year. Whether it was squeezing into the basement filled far beyond capacity watching Ungdomskulen during by:Larm, The Lionheart Brothers at Klubb Øya or Next Life’s ten year anniversary — or one of many international indie acts such as Wave Machines and Times New Viking, or just to shake your asses to Klubb Knulldröm or Kjøss Katta.
One definite highlight though, was celebrating the birthday of Sten Ove Toft, with an evening dedicated solely to noise. Timothy Harris reported:
«… guitars that dominate the mix, and the drones and textures on display here seem immediately more accomplished and refined as the sculpted layers intertwine perfectly above a distant rumble that seems to be trying to erupt from under the basement floor. [...]
As the performance reaches its conclusion the duo are on their knees worshipping the pedal boards beneath them. Slowly a hypnotic gong emerges through the noise, as Tylden extinguishes all the candles leaving the crowd in darkness, alone with the solitary Gong and the sound of a crackling fire.»
