My Bloody Valentine have been busy curating for All Tomorrows Parties since they hosted their first concerts this side of the millennium. Now the turn has come to them to curate The Nightmare Before Christmas — and an all star team of guitar-noiser-uppers are, as per usual, lining up.
Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Buzzcocks and J. Mascis are hardly surprise guests at ATP’s events, however firsttimers this December are Norwegians Serena Maneesh. The band hasn’t set foot on stage since May 2007 and frontman Emil Nikolaisen tells Dagbladet they are feeling their instruments tingle these days. He promises plenty of new material and is pretty excited himself to see what melodies he manages to destill in time for the Christmas party in a few months.
Serena Maneesh’s selftitled debut was released in 2005, and Nikolaisen claims to have spent most of his waking moments since then making the follow up. Rumour has it him and Kevin Shields hit it off when MBV visited Øya last year — ending up in Nikolaisen’s studio at the bottom of a whiskey bottle all night… Now that could lead to something very special indeed, both in terms of live nightmarish Christmas concerts and coming Serena Maneesh recordings.
