Röyksopp stream Robyn collaboration

Written on March 10th, 2009 by Dan Roberts

It’s not long now until Bergen downtempo duo Röyksopp drop third full-length Junior, and after the squelchy joy that was ‘Happy Up Here’ expectant fans can now listen to Robyn’s guest vocal appearance on the forthcoming album by streaming new song ‘The Girl And The Robot’ via Stereogum.

We predicted way back in June that Robyn was due to guest on the record, and indeed here she is. Her rather wonderful Robyn album included a song called ‘Robotboy’, so perhaps this can be seen thematically as a sequel, although if she carries on with this sort of thing people are going to start asking awkward questions about her partiality for male machines.

Anyway, ‘The Girl And The Robot’ doesn’t have the heart-stopping (ahem) immediacy of the Swedish pop queen’s hit collaboration with Kleerup, ‘With Every Heartbeat’, in fact at first it seems pretty aimless and intangible, but with a few listens it reveals itself to be a swirling dark disco-drone diva-led dancefloor dreamscape. Put it down as a grower.

Junior hits the shelves on March 23rd.
