Supersilent lose member, but prep new record

Written on March 7th, 2009 by Dan Roberts

Experimental jazz quartet Supersilent have become experimental jazz trio Supersilent, after the departure of drummer Jarle Vespestad. There’s no word yet on Vespestad’s motivations for moving on, but given the numerous adulterous collaborations all the band-members have been involved in it’s likely a change of focus is what it’s down to: in the past, besides Supersilent, Vespestad has had a hand in Farmers Market and the Silje Nergaard Band, and has lent his talents to Tore Brunborg, Petter Wettre, and Bugge Wesseltoft among others.

The change by no means heralds the end of Supersilent, however, who have apparently already recorded a follow-up to 2007’s 8. My money’s on it being called 9.

Let’s hope the downsizing doesn’t dull their fierce live edge.
