Turbonegro and Ida Maria for Coachella ‘09

Written on January 31st, 2009 by Dan Roberts

The line-up for this years Coachella Festival in California has been finalised, and a stonking prospect it is too. Veterans like Paul McCartney, Leonard Cohen, Morrissey and My Bloody Valentine brushing up against hot young things Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio and Antony & the Johnsons, to name but a few.

Perking NöMusic’s interest, however, are the two Norwegian acts on the bill, Glam-metal clowns Turbonegro and rock-chick Ida Maria, whose US profile is on the rise after Time magazine rather exorbitantly acclaimed her ‘powerhouse voice — deep, commanding, a little masculine, exotic, too, like Nico, but with an abundance rather than an absence of feeling’, whilst naming ‘Oh My God’ the third best song of the year. Turbonego’s return to the US, meanwhile, will be part of their first tour across the pond since guitarist Euroboy’s recovery from cancer. Both Turbonegro and Ida take to the stage on the second day of the event; Saturday April 18th.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival takes place from the 17 to 19 April 2009.
