Tiger: Record shop spawns label

Written on June 9th, 2008 by Åse Bredeli Røyset

The record industry is going belly up. The demise has been long-anticipated by many, and seemingly unavoidable. Yet in a concrete bunker-like building in Oslo the tiny record shop Tiger is possibly hiding the music industry’s best kept secret; how to make record sales rise in 2007. Yes, physical over-the-counter record sales - up, up, and beyond.

Or maybe the secret isn’t that hush-hush after all. Maybe it’s about guts, idealism, good old-fashioned D.I.Y. and most importantly, some really rather excellent music you can’t get elsewhere.

This is the ethos behind Tiger’s newly started record label Fysisk Format (I’ll leave those non-Nordic-speaking readers out there pondering what that might translate to). Focussing on quality underground music Fysisk Format will release records in hand-made covers and those mp3s everyone’s raving about these days.

The debut is just around the corner, with Haust coming up 16th June, and later this year Kaospilot, Snöras and Silver are scheduled for release.

Nö Music is looking forwards to the rest.
